Passport Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where can I find a WinterKids Passport application?

You may apply online right now by clicking here, or you may pick up an application at Hannaford Supermarkets, Time Warner Cable offices, TD Banknorth branches, and L.L.Bean. Applications were also sent to every public and private school in the state of Maine in early November for distribution to every Maine 5th, 6th, or 7th grader.

2. What should I send in for proof of age/grade?

You must provide your grade level and teacher’s name on the application.

3. What if I homeschool my child?

To prove grade level, you may acquire a letter from the state that will denote which grade level your child would be in if he/she attended public school in Maine, or call us.

4. How do I find out more about scholarships?

Call our Passport Hotline at 207-871-5700 x 132.

5. How may I find out what a certain area is offering before I send in my application?

You can see all of the areas’ offerings by clicking on “Passport Offerings” on the left side of this page.

6. What happens after I mail in my application?

We will mail your Passport booklet to the address on your Passport application. You will need to affix a photo of the Passport holder, write in the names of siblings, and fill out the emergency contact information in the booklet. You will need to bring this booklet each time you visit an area to take advantage of the discounts.

7. What should I do BEFORE arriving at the participating area?
1. Provide siblings names on the inside front cover of the Passport and affix your photo.
2. Fill out emergency contact information.
3. Make sure you are familiar with the area’s offer before arriving.
4. When you arrive, present Passport at the ticket counter.

8. For the downhill areas that require the purchase of a full-price or discounted adult ticket, may I use my season pass for that area as my adult lift ticket?

Yes, season passes and Ski Maine Statewide Passes both count as the adult lift ticket.

9. Do I need to go to the ticket counter with my mom and dad?

Yes, your whole family needs to be present at the ticket counter, including your siblings.

10. Should I arrive early if using services like lessons and rentals?

Yes, arriving early means you won’t miss out.

11. What happens if I lose my Passport?

Call the Passport Hotline at 871-5700 x 132.

12. Does WinterKids need any volunteers?

Yes! Please click on “How Can I Help?” at the top of the page to find out more.

13. How is WinterKids funded?

WinterKids is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose financial support comes only from the generosity of individual contributions and the general business community. The Maine winter sports industry provides support through its in-kind contribution of tickets, lessons, and equipment rentals to Passport kids and their families, but funding is still needed so we can operate our programs. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to WinterKids, you may send your donation to:
