Apply for a WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund Grant!

In honor of the 10-year anniversary of the WinterKids Downhill 24, WinterKids created the Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund to help get even more kids outside and active across Maine and beyond. This fund will help to address the barriers to healthy outdoor activity, including but not limited to equipment, clothing, and transportation.

For the inaugural year of the WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund, we will be granting $25,000 to 4 organizations to help get kids outside and active more often. Winning organizations will be determined by community vote.

APPLICATIONS OPEN: 8/1/22 – 8/15/22

COMMUNITY VOTE: 9/1/22 – 9/30/22

WINNERS ANNOUNCED: Tuesday, October 11, 2022

A total of 4 grants will be awarded to organizations listed on the ballot for community vote.

The top vote-getting nonprofit organization will receive $10,000, with runner-up grants awarded to the next three nonprofits at $5,000 each. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

All winners are required to dispense the winning funds by April 1, 2023.

All winners are required to report to WinterKids on the use of funds by April 15, 2023.

Organizations that qualify for the WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund ballot must meet the following criteria:

  • The organization must be a Maine registered 501(c)(3) OR Maine public school OR Maine parks and recreational department
  • All funds must be used to help get kids outside and active more often
  • Applicant organizations must have non-discriminatory programs open to all—nonsectarian
  • Operating organizations with offices in Maine or New Hampshire
  • WinterKids reserves the right to verify and/or reject ballots and nonprofit eligibility
  • WinterKids does not provide financial support for political organizations or candidates, religious organizations, or activities for sectarian purposes

***Organizations or schools who were monetary beneficiaries of the 2022 WinterKids Downhill 24 or the WinterKids Winter Games are ineligible to apply.

You will need to pull together the following information & assets before sitting down to complete the form below:

  • Primary contact (name, email, phone)
  • Organization address
  • Your organization’s mission
  • Proof of 501(c)(3) status, if applicable
  • Description of how your organization would use a WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund grant to get more kids outside and active.
  • Your organization’s logo
  • A favorite photo from your organization

***Organizations or schools who were monetary beneficiaries of the 2022 WinterKids Downhill 24 or the WinterKids Winter Games are ineligible to apply.

Here are examples of how a WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund Grant can be used:

  • Outdoor equipment for your classroom

  • Field trips for outdoor, active fun!

  • Outdoor gear or clothing

  • Bring an outdoor physical activity program to your school or organization

  • Hiking trips

  • Nature excursions

  • Winter sports equipment or clothing

  • Learn a new sport or outdoor activity (i.e. skiing, skating, rafting, ropes courses, etc.)

Grant funds can be used for anything that gets kids outside and active more often in your organization. Preference is given to projects that get kids outside and active more often in the winter. Still need more clarity? Give us a shout by filling out the form below.

GENERAL RULES

WinterKids will award a total of 4 grants to the top four vote getting organizations listed on the ballot, as determined by WinterKids in its sole discretion.  The top vote-getting nonprofit organization will receive $10,000, with runner-up grants awarded the next three nonprofits at $5,000 each. Winners will be announced on or around Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

All winners are required to dispense of the winning funds by April 1, 2023.  In addition, all winners are required to report to WinterKids on use of funds by April 15, 2023 using the form WinterKids provides.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 

To qualify for the WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund any organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Maine registered 501(c)(3) or Maine public school or Maine parks and recreational department;
  • All funds must be used to help get kids outside and active more often;
  • Applicant organizations must have non-discriminatory programs open to all and be nonsectarian; and
  • Operating organizations with offices in Maine or New Hampshire

WinterKids will review each application for compliance with the above eligibility criteria.  WinterKids reserves the right to independently verify the eligibility status of any applicant organization and reject any applications that, in WinterKids sole discretion, do not meet the eligibility requirements or otherwise are not consistent with WinterKids’s purpose or mission.  By submitting an application each applicant organization agrees to cooperate with reasonable information requests from WinterKids to verify eligibility status as well as comply with all General Rules, including any amendments that WinterKids may from time to time make.  Also, WinterKids does not provide financial support for political organizations or candidates, religious organizations, or activities for sectarian purposes and any applications from such organizations will be denied.  Any organizations or schools who were monetary beneficiaries of the 2022 WinterKids Downhill 24 or the WinterKids Winter Games are also ineligible to apply this year, but may apply in future years. 

VOTING REQUIREMENTS 

You may submit one (1) online ballot with up to four (4) different nonprofit organizations. Votes may be only for organizations on the ballot. Votes must be for 4 different nonprofits. Duplicate ballots and ballots with more than four organizations are invalid and will not be counted.

Voting is open only to Maine or New Hampshire residents.  Online voting begins at 9:00 a.m. September 1, 2022 and ends on September 30, 2022 at 11:59:59 pm.
