In honor of the 10-year anniversary of the WinterKids Downhill 24, WinterKids created the Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund to help get even more kids outside and active across Maine and beyond. This fund will help to address the barriers to healthy outdoor activity, including but not limited to equipment, clothing, and transportation.
ABOUT THE DOWNHILL 24 OUTDOOR FUND
For Year 2 of the WinterKids Downhill 24 Outdoor Fund, 54 organizations across Maine competed for grants totaling $51,000, aimed at helping to get kids outside and active within the communities they serve.
From July 3 to July 28, 2023, an online voting process took place, during which over 9,000 members of the public chose the winners in three distinct categories:
- Maine 501(c)(3) nonprofits
- Maine Public Schools
- Maine Parks and Recreation departments
The top vote-getters in each group secured first place and will each be awarded a grant of $10,000. The second-place winners will receive a grant of $5,000, and the third-place contenders will receive $1,500.
Even more, commendation goes to our honorable mention winners, who placed fourth in their categories. Each of these organizations will be awarded a $500 grant.
