Mountain Valley Middle School
Mission: The mission of Mt. Valley Middle School is to provide a safe place for all students to reach their potential. Specifically for my area, physical education, my goal is to get students to love movement so it will become a part of their lives forever. The western foothills of Maine offer ample opportunities to get moving in the winter, from an extended series of trails for snowshoeing to sledding and ice skating, along with being home to Black Mountain of Maine, a local ski area which offers downhill as well as nordic skiing. Winter can be long if you are stuck inside so we are trying to get kids hooked on being “winter kids” by exposing them to all that Maine offers. As students age, it seems like the time spent outdoors in the winter decreases; we want to change that by getting them to remember how much fun they can have just being outside.
