Town of Thomaston Maine Park and Recreation
Mission: The Town of Thomaston Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Sidecountry Trails, Georges River Land Trust, Oceanside Middle School and Midcoast School of Technology to build a trail network in the Thomaston Town Forest. This 7 miles of machine made trail is open to the public. These trails were built using donation money and grant money from Sidecountry Sports, Town of Thomaston, Outride Fund and the Maine Mountain Bike Fund. The local school districts have received grants to run bicycle programs on these trails. Oceanside Middle School received a Riding For Focus Grant (Specialized Bicycle Foundation) which includes 35 mountain bikes. These bikes and program are used to get kids outside and active during the school day. Midcoast School of Technology (MST) received a federal grant to purchase 15 Salsa fat bikes. The MST has a program that has kids help build and maintain trails as well as use the bikes to help in the community. The bikes are used year round in the community and on this trail system.
