Skiing Mt Abram-Whitney Blethen-Feb 21 2025
I now have my own kids and knew I wanted to pass along the love of skiing to them, but cost was always a factor for our family. Thanks to WinterKids, my children have been able to experience the love of this sport, grow their skills, and have found great joy in the winter season.

I benefited from WinterKids passport growing up. With it, it enabled my family to explore different ski mountains around Maine (and made it more affordable for them). It developed a habit that I absolutely love, skiing. My husband and I are passionate about passing on that lifestyle to our two girls. They ski and absolutely love it so my hope is that by fundraising to support WinterKids through the Downhill24 that it introduces other Maine children to enjoy the gems in our backyard.

Our original ski Passport program was created 25 years ago as a printed ski passport for 5th graders.

Now a mobile app, it covers all kids aged 5-17 and includes not just downhill skiing, but also XC skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the WinterKids Passport?

The WinterKids Passport is an annual family membership that gives kids ages 5–17 free and discounted tickets at ski areas, skating rinks, trails, and more across Maine.

How much does a membership cost?

An annual family membership is $40 for up to 5 people. Additional family members can be added for $10 each.

When does my membership expire?

Your family membership is valid until the end of the first September after you sign up. Most Passport deals are winter activities, and those individual offers typically expire at the end of the snow season in March (exact dates vary by location).

Who can be included in a family membership?

A parent or guardian is the primary member and can add up to 4 family members — typically your children, spouse, or others who will redeem offers with you.

What if we have more than five people in our family?

You can add additional members for $10 per person. Contact Josh Harrington at jharrington@winterkids.org for assistance.

Is the Passport available outside of Maine?

The WinterKids Passport covers Maine locations only. For families in New Hampshire or Michigan, separate Ski NH and MSIA Passports are available.

Can I share my membership with another family?

No. Each membership is designed for one household and is non-transferable.

How do I access the Passport once I join?

After you sign up, you’ll receive a welcome email with instructions to download the free WinterKids Passport app. Log in through the mobile app to view and redeem this season’s deals.

How do I redeem an offer?

When visiting a participating location, open the WinterKids Passport app, select the deal, and show it at the ticket counter or designated spot.

How many times can my family use each deal?

Each eligible child can redeem each offer at least once. Some partners may also include discounts for adults.

Do I need to purchase an adult ticket to use a free child ticket?

Many of the free junior ticket offers require the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket. Details are listed in each offer in the app.

What kinds of activities are included?

The Passport includes downhill skiing/snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, snowshoeing/winter hiking, and discounts on outdoor gear.

Where can I see a full list of deals?

Deals are listed in the mobile app and in our seasonal deal guide.

>>View our Seasonal Deal Guide Here

What are WinterKids Family Days?

Family Days are special events at partner locations where Passport members receive extra discounts and have the chance to connect with other WinterKids families. Most family days happen during the winter season.

>>View our current family day calendar here.

How many deals are available this year?

This season, families can enjoy nearly 100 deals from 45+ partners across Maine.

Why are renewing members being asked to reset their passwords this year?

The Passport has been redesigned, and the systems behind the app have also changed. For security and compatibility, all renewing members will need to reset their password the first time they log in this season. Don’t worry – it only takes a moment, and we’ll walk you through the steps when you sign in.

What if I forget my password or can’t log in?

Use the “Forgot Password” link on the login page of the mobile app. If you’re still having trouble, contact jharrington@winterkids.org.
