WinterKids Celebrates 25 Years of Joyful Outdoor Learning and Play
WinterKids, Maine’s nonprofit leader in outdoor winter learning and play, is marking its 25th Anniversary with a year-long statewide celebration. Since 2000, WinterKids has helped children and families build healthy habits through joyful outdoor experiences.
This milestone honors 25 years of connecting kids with Maine’s great outdoors and looks ahead to a future full of moving, learning, and exploring.

WinterKids has helped kids across Maine get outside, move, learn, and explore for 25 years. This milestone is a celebration of the families, educators, and partners who’ve been part of the journey, and a joyful invitation to the next generation to make winter their own.

Anniversary Highlights
Throughout the anniversary year, WinterKids will host inclusive events and engaging school programs designed to bring more families outdoors and highlight the power of movement, nature, and play.
Key Initiatives:
- 25 Days of Movement Challenge – (August) A month of fun, free outdoor activities for families across Maine.
- Snow Day Dreams Film Festival – November 18 at AURA in Portland, presented with the Maine Outdoor Film Festival.
- WinterKids Passport – Digital family memberships with statewide deals for skiing, skating, and more (available starting November 1).
- Welcome to Winter – December 22 at Lost Valley, Auburn | Community celebration of snow and play.
- WinterKids Winter Games – January 12–February 6 | A statewide outdoor activity challenge for schools.
- Downhill 24 – February 26–27 at Sugarloaf | A high-energy fundraising ski and snowboard event.
