Reflections
This week at Harrison Elementary was filled with energy, joy, and meaningful connections. Our participation in the WinterKids Winter Games brought our school community together in a powerful way—students were active, engaged, and smiling as they played, laughed, and embraced the winter outdoors. It was especially rewarding to see how the experience supported not only physical activity, but also social connection, confidence, and overall well-being for our students.
We were also proud to be featured in a news article which highlighted our students’ enthusiasm and the positive impact WinterKids has had on our school community. The recognition reinforced the importance of creating opportunities that celebrate childhood, wellness, and joy.
Overall, it was a heartwarming week that reminded us how meaningful shared experiences can be for our students, staff, and families.

Reflections
Our students fully embraced the winter spirit and proved that cold weather doesn’t stop the fun! Even with temperatures dipping to 8 degrees, students enjoyed being outdoors, participating in exciting relays, and cheering each other on during our step competition. The energy and enthusiasm were contagious.
We also loved welcoming families to our WinterKids parent luncheon, where students and caregivers enjoyed a picnic lunch outside together. The fun continued with winter recess activities, giving everyone a chance to move, play, and enjoy the season. It was a wonderful day celebrating outdoor activity, community connection, and all the joy that winter brings.

Reflections
We kicked off Week 3 with a snow day, and many of our students made great progress completing components of their WinterKids Bingo boards at home!
We also loved hosting our Family Sledding Night at the RADR fields. It was so wonderful to see families come together for a night of sledding, lighting the way with their Aroma Joe’s flashlights, and warming up afterward with some delicious hot cocoa. ☕🛷
Throughout the week, students continued to enjoy plenty of time outside in the fresh snow, staying active and completing WinterKids activities. It truly was a week full of kindness and energy, and we’re so proud of our students and families for embracing all the winter fun!

Week 4 was full of winter fun as we wrapped things up with our Winter Carnival! Students enjoyed spending time outside celebrating the season, and a huge thank-you to Aroma Joe’s for treating us to delicious hot cocoa that helped everyone stay warm. It was a fun, cozy way to celebrate all the winter energy, movement, and community spirit we’ve shared throughout WinterKids!

The WinterKids Winter Games is a four-week outdoor learning challenge that inspires thousands of Maine elementary students to move, learn, and explore during the HEART of winter.
