Reflections

This week, Robin Taylor, a retired teacher and certified nutritionist came to PES to teach kids about the 5210 message, and keeping their bodies healthy and active. Students participated in a whole school nutrition kickoff. They learned about the 5210 message, organized foods using a food pyramid, and considered the products they put into their bodies.

In classrooms, staff worked with students on WinterKids activities, as students began to think about how they spend their time after school, and what makes them feel happy. We had a whole school community lunch, and students chose new friends to sit with. We also had a nurse from Midcoast Hospital come to speak with students about keeping their hearts healthy during the winter months.

While the temperatures did get colder, that didn’t keep us from having fun outside. Our third graders took to the woods in snowshoes on Wednesday. Students also enjoyed a healthy snack of grapes, or celery and peanut butter.

Overall, this week was about coming together as a community and providing whole school healthy messaging to students. Thank you to all our staff for their participation in completing another successful week of WinterKids.

Reflections

This week is all about connection between community and family. A large winter storm brought fresh snow to the area, blanketing the playground and the surrounding fields. We practiced kindness this week, and learned about what makes our heart full, including the people we love and nature all around us. Students received flashlights as their incentive, and have fun completing the Morse Code activity in their playbooks. During Forest Friday, reading buddy groups across the school got together to complete the partner relay.

Following the theme of WinterKids Heart – we filled our community with images of heart, both inside the building and outside. We also completed the snack pal activity, and had students submit their kindness hearts to a school wide kindness jar

On Friday afternoon, we gathered as a school community and had some fun together after school. Families joined us in snow shoeing, sledding, snow art, and snow fort building. Even with the chilly temperatures this week, staff and families enjoyed some outside time together. This week was really all about what it means to be a community

Week 4

Winter Carnival

February 2-6, 2026

Moment of the Week

Reflections

This week was all about moving our bodies, feeling the groove, and showing our heart. Students had a blast using the beach balls this week. We created heart art and hung it around the school in different places. Our end of the week Winter Carnival was a huge hit. Members from the PTA and Phippsburg Cares ran information booths with fun activities and prizes for kids. Superintendent Patrick Manuel and Assistant Superintendent Katie Joseph came by to join in the afternoon of fun. Students rotated through six stations, community booths and a YETI themed photo booth, freeze dance, sledding for distance, jet sled pulling, snowball toss, and smores making. I bet you all can guess what the favorite activity was – even with burnt marshmallows. The jet sled pulling event was SO fun! We had a lot of students wanting to pull their favorite teacher during the relay race.
