I now have my own kids and knew I wanted to pass along the love of skiing to them, but cost was always a factor for our family. Thanks to WinterKids, my children have been able to experience the love of this sport, grow their skills, and have found great joy in the winter season.
I benefited from WinterKids passport growing up. With it, it enabled my family to explore different ski mountains around Maine (and made it more affordable for them). It developed a habit that I absolutely love, skiing.
My husband and I are passionate about passing on that lifestyle to our two girls. They ski and absolutely love it so my hope is that by fundraising to support WinterKids through the Downhill24 that it introduces other Maine children to enjoy the gems in our backyard.
In the early 2010’s my son expressed an interest in Snowboarding. We were not a skiing family at the time and I had little to no experience with the sport. We did not have the resources to jump in to what was, even at the time, a very expensive sport. We purchased the passport ($40 I think) and were able to get him a few lessons and rentals at a discounted rate and I was also able to get the same to be able to spend the time on the mountain with him. That opportunity turned into a full fledged skiing / snowboarding addiction.
My now family of 5 spends every weekend on a mountain skiing, all of us in the 30-40 day per year range. My two youngest are in the slopes every saturday and Sunday, from thanksgiving to mid April, regardless of the conditions.
We were able to ski more often because WinterKids made it affordable with kids.
We skied a lot more as a family!

Kids are totally in to skiing now and we would never have gone if we didn’t have the reduced ticket prices.
