WinterKids has been honored by Governor Janet Mills with the 2025 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence, the first nonprofit ever to receive this recognition.

It was a pleasure to share the WinterKids mission and chat about our exciting winter calendar of events with Danny Martignetti for Newsradio WGAN!

Winter in Maine is more than a season; it’s a playground, a classroom, and a chance to grow. This year, thanks to the WinterKids Adventure Fund, more than 1,300 children across the state will have new opportunities to discover the joy of winter through skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country adventures.

Our 2024/25 season wrap up celebrates a season of transitions and creating positive changes in the lives of Maine Children!

We are beyond proud to share that our incredible Executive Director, Courtney Holub, has been named one of Coast 93.1’s 20 Outstanding Women of 2025! Courtney’s leadership at WinterKids is inspiring children and families across the state to embrace the magic of winter through outdoor adventure, learning, and play.

In the winter, it’s easy to fall into comfortable indoor habits, and WinterKids is a great starting point and access point for kids to get outdoors. When you’re outside and engaging in physical movement, all of that greatly benefits your mental well-being, physical health, ability to stay focused, and overall wellness.

We are elated to announce the appointment of Courtney Holub as the new WinterKids Executive Director. Courtney brings over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on creating opportunities for diverse populations. Her extensive career has encompassed philanthropy, program development, leadership, and impactful board positions.

As we move into the 2024/25 season, we bid farewell to several remarkable humans whose dedicated service on our Board of Directors has ended. We say a fond farewell and THANK YOU to Jennifer Flynn, Steph Lindsay, Sarah Long, Tom Fremont-Smith, Gabe Weiss, and Jeff Zachau while welcoming several new board members!

As we move into the new 2023/24 season, we bid farewell to three exceptional members whose dedicated service on our Board of Directors has ended. Their invaluable contributions, unwavering commitment, and strategic vision have left an indelible mark on our journey thus far. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for their remarkable tenure and warmly welcome a new board member who brings a fresh perspective.

With outside being the safest and best place to be, WinterKids has truly thrived during the pandemic! We were able to reach nearly 27,000 kids, teachers and families in Maine and New Hampshire with creative adaptations for safe, outdoor adventures. Check out our 2020/2021 Season Wrap Up Report!

This February, Maine Women Magazine featured women who are “conquering winter” here in Maine! Among the many incredible women included in the Feb edition was our own Executive Director, Julie Mulkern, in an article titled “Snow Queen”!
