Brown School Skates

Mission: The Brown School Ice Skating club is the only program of its kind in Maine offering free professional group lessons from a former competitive and professional figure skater and equitable access to ice skating space, donated skates, and equipment. This program promotes opportunities for outdoor and indoor ice skating; a sport that is often expensive and inaccessible to many families. We foster healthy and fun exercise through both on and off ice training, nurture meaningful relationships, and offer students an opportunity to discover talents and interests together that they may never have the chance to explore outside of school. Participation in this seasonal activity will support a growth mindset, build self-confidence, nurture friendships, break barriers in our community and create a sense of belonging. We believe that all children should have opportunities to take safe risks and challenge themselves to try new things while staying connected and grounded to nature.

Location: South Portland, ME

Organization Type: Maine public school
